The Trails

The Morse Farm Ski Touring Center is Central Vermontís brand new cross country ski and snowshoe center... that's "brand new," as opposed to existing centers designed largely around old logging roads. Our trails are designed by Olympian trail designer John Morton. "It's wonderful terrain, a trail system design in the Norwegian style of manageable climbs and exhilarating descents," says Morton of the Morse Farm trail network. "It's a great combination of gentle terrain for novices and challenging trails for advanced skiers."

The new center stands just three miles up Montpelier's Main Street and is an easy place for Vermonters and visitors alike to drop by for a quick morning or mid-day winter workout. Crews were out building the state-of-the-art trail network all summer and fall

The Nordic center is operated by Burr Morse, seventh generation maple sugarmaker and jack-of-all-agritourism-projects. "Winter has been our slow season, so we built a ski center," Morse says. "And with its location so close to Montpelier, even the legislators can ski our curving, sweeping runs and pass sweeping legislation all in the same day!" Letting off steam, legislative or otherwise, promises to be in the cards for throngs of Central Vermonters this winter at Vermont's newest ski touring center.

With views of Camel's Hump and the Hunger Mountain range, our scenic trails offer a diverse choice of terrain, through softwood forests, sugarbush, and across gently rolling open pastures. The ski center warming hut and on-site rental shop share the same building with the Morse Farm Sugar Shack gift shop. While you're here, take a few minutes to tour maple sugaring works, taste our maple sugar-on-snow, or just enjoy a cup of hot mulled cider or coffee by the wood stove while watching fellow skiers from our glassed-in deck.
