Onion River Nordic Ski Club

For anyone in the Central Vermont area interested in cross country skiing, there is at long last a local club committed to cultivating Nordic skiing for all levels and abilities. Onion River Nordic Ski Club is now in its third season and is continuing to build momentum with over 100 members already registered for the 2008 season.

Club founder and President Nick Petterssen has been the driving force setting the club’s mission "to promote Nordic skiing and support the Nordic skiing community in central Vermont." After doing the background work with a core group of local ski enthusiasts the club was formed and has gone on to establish itself a real focal point for local skiers.

Onion River Nordic is based at Morse Farm and is excited by the benefits from cooperation with both Morse Farm and Onion River Sports. The Club offers programs for children and adults at all levels of ability. Membership in the club is available for a nominal fee and entitles members to ski gear discounts at Onion River Sports, organized ski trips, connections to the local Nordic community, participation in the Bill Koch League youth program, discounted fee to join NENSA (the New England Nordic Ski Association) and much more.

The youth ski program meets weekly on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons, with a non-competitive focus on camaraderie, comfort and having fun on skis. General instruction will be provided. The Club’s adult program has started with its 6:15 Wednesday evening ski at Morse Farm as well as noontime technique clinics on Thursdays. Mid-January will mark the start of a series of Tuesday night sprint races for all ability levels.
